Lake Level

Silver Lake’s water level is regulated by a dam located at the southern end of the lake. This dam is owned by and controlled by the Dam Bureau of the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services.

Full pond (summer lake level) was set in the 1960s. It is 1,318.75 feet above sea level.

In the fall, the Lake level is drawn down by the Dam Bureau, starting after Columbus Day. The level is drawn down gradually until December 1 when it reaches full draw down which is three feet below full pond.

The Lake is refilled beginning on February 1. This is an art, balancing ice, weather, water availability, and other conditions. The goal is to reach full pond by the first week of May.

During the summer the Dam Bureau actively manages the dam to maintain full pond.
